Fall Skincare Routine

Ever since I was little I had the skincare/makeup love gene. I’m the kind of person who absolutely has to take my makeup off before I go to bed and there’s nothing I hate more than dry skin. I love trying new products to see what work best (and also what’s not really makin’ the cut). So, I thought it would be fun to show you all my fall skincare routine and the products I’m currently loving! I could write a long post on my all-time favorites but I wanted to narrow it down and show you my fall favorites and my routine.

My Routine + Products

What I’m telling you is typically what I do in the morning or at night, so this doesn’t really include makeup, except for a tinted moisturizer.

Morning Face Wash

In the morning, I usually wash my face or wipe it clean with the Kirkland Signature Daily Facial Towellettes. Facewash is the one thing not shown in the pictures because I took these photos while on my trip and I didn’t bring what I normally use. If I use a face wipe, I actually love the Costco ones. I’ve tried other brands like Neutrogena but most wipes make my skin too oily or they sting. Typically I use the CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser because it’s great for sensitive skin and has hyaluronic acid in it. I also really like The Body Shop Vitamin C Daily Glow Facial Cleansing Polish Face Scrub. It makes my skin so bright and refreshed. I got it last year on sale during Black Friday and that was a great decision haha it lasted me SO long too!

Morning Moisturizer

My skin always feels so much dryer this time of year so moisturizer is essential. Next, I put moisturizer on and I’ve been loving this Better Skin Mirakle Cream I first tried this product when I went to BeautyCon earlier this year and loved it! I would not say that unless I meant it and let me tell you, this truly feels like butter slathered on your face. They were kind enough to send me these products because they know how much I love them! Go try them for yourself, you’ll see what I mean!

SPF for the day

Then, before applying makeup like concealer or foundation I make sure to get some SPF on. I think moisturizer and SPF is the secret to great skin. My friends make fun of me because I am the SPF freak always telling people to wear sunscreen but the sun is an invisible damager! You don’t see the negative effects sun damage has on skin until about 20 years later (or so I’ve read). Anyways, I’ve been loving a tinted SPF/Moisturizer lately and this Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer is great! It’s definitely tinted and a little goes a long way but it’s a great base with the added plus of SPF. The Cotz Face Natural Skin Tone SPF 40 I also tried at BeautyCon and I found my new favorite face sunscreen! Think of whipped butter, and that’s what feels like is going on your face. It blends into the skin great and it’s perfect for pre-makeup.

Nighttime Routine

At the end of the day, I always take my makeup off and wash my face. I use the same wipes and/or face wash. At night time, I also like to do an occasional face mask or scrub. I really like Better Skin Lava Magik – Cleanser – Scrub – Mask, which you can use as a scrub or mask. Here’s my experience with it: I loved it as a scrub, I felt like I had baby soft skin afterward. As a mask, not so much. I have really sensitive skin and my face felt a burning sensation after keeping the mask on for just a few minutes. The lava mask is also red in nature, so it might look like it stains your skin momentarily even though it doesn’t. That was just my experience so I’m not sure how your skin will react but do love these products overall.

I love the PCA SKIN Après Peel Hydrating Balm for nighttime. I’ve been switching off between this and the Mirakle Cream but either are super moisturizing! In the photo, this moisturizer is in a little travel container, but it comes in a much larger one when you buy it. It also smells amazing!

Next, I do some spot treatment if I have any breakouts and here are my go-tos for that this fall season. Epiduo is amazing for drying out a zit when needed. I found out about this through my dermatologist and I’ve used it for a while now! Now, for my secret weapon. On my trip to Oahu this past summer, I came across this Hawaiian Healer Salve. The girl in the shop (my favorite local store in Kailua) said it was a miracle salve and she swears by it. She said it makes scars fade, breakouts vanish, etc. She raved about it! I thought I would give it a go, but wasn’t holding my breath. Oh my goodness you guys! It really is magical! I will put this on my breakouts and I wake up the next day and my skin looks almost perfect! It’s all natural and also doubles as a great chapstick. P.S. this would make the perfect stocking stuffer for a friend or loved one! Whether it’s your best girlfriend or even your brother, definitely get this salve!

That’s it for my fall skincare routine! If you’re interested in me going a bit further and showing you my go-to makeup products for fall be sure to comment and let me know below! Any other questions and feel free to reach out! What are your favorite skincare products right now?

The Beauty in Authenticity: Notes from BeautyCon

Celebrating the Uninhibited You:

I recently went to my first-ever BeautyCon in LA and wasn’t surprised to see that many of the brands there had a message to send. A powerful one. One that coincided with what BeautyCon is all about. The crazy thing is just one month ago I wasn’t even sure what BeautyCon’s message truly was. Turns out, authenticity at BeautyCon is huge.

When I found out a friend got us passes to BeautyCon I was ecstatic! Something you may not know about me is how much I actually love makeup and skin care. When I was little I would watch how my mom took care of her skin and was always so curious to see all the different products she would use. As I got older it grew into curiosity about what I like and started experimenting with different kinds of makeup. To this day, we are still obsessed with Bobbi Brown, not much has changed from 10 years ago (except that we are also obsessed with Beauty Blenders now). But because I’m sure you know by now I’m not a beauty blogger per-say, I have more to share here today than my favorite products.

Beauty in the Wild

I hopped on the internet to find out about BeautyCon before going and what I discovered was more than their line-up of guest speakers. Moj Mahdara, CEO of BeautyCon, wanted to create an environment where digital content creators had a platform to express their individuality—especially in a world where the influence on young people is so important in today’s world. Her diverse background fueled the drive to continue to create diversity in the beauty and digital world. In an interview with Forbes Elyssa Starkman, Head of Content at BeautyCon, said “At Beautycon we believe it’s more important to have the space to do-you, to interpret those how-tos however you want.”

When I entered the convention center at BeautyCon, I was greeted with a visual fusion of the beauty and digital worlds that reflected exactly what I had read before going. Their Beauty in the Wild poster stood loud and proud:

“Beauty in the Wild is a call to celebrate the uninhibited you—to feel free and bold in expressing all the different elements of your individuality. At this year’s BeautyCon festival in Los Angeles, we invite you to join our community of rule breakers, risk takers, and innovators to be untamed, fierce, and fearless. It’s an exploration into the power of beauty through self- expression.”

The How-You Voice vs. How-To

More than anything, BeautyCon celebrates being your most authentic self in whatever way that looks like. How you define beauty for yourself, and how you choose to utilize makeup and skincare is your own individual expression of power and creativity. I didn’t see many booths talking about the latest “trends,” rather I saw brands showing young people, “here’s what we have to offer and we’d love to see how you make it your own.” BeautyCon makes a conscious move into the “how-you” voice and away from the “how-to.” They want you to celebrate the uninhibited you and come together to celebrate the diverse interpretations of beauty. Authenticity at BeautyCon is huge.

I left that day feeling like there was such a force behind the message that there’s so much beauty in being true to who you are and being your most authentic self. As I walked around the convention, I felt confident in my own skin and had a feeling that most people there did too because of the encouraging environment to just “do you.”

Authenticity in Social Media

BeautyCon’s message of being authentic speaks volumes not only in the beauty world, but in the digital world as well. So much of what BeautyCon is about is fusing the glam world with the online space. I hear this all the time as a blogger to be your most authentic self, but it’s so true and it’s something I hope we can all do and find genuine ways to express that. In this social media world, it can get confusing and hard to not be influenced by other people or content. Something I always tell myself is that if I can’t tell my closest friends a room full of people that I truly like something or I’m advocating for something than I’m not being my authentic self. There are so many ways to look at it, but this was a way to dip our toes into the conversation of authenticity.

Express Yo’ Self

Anyone else have that song pop into their head and want to break out in a little dance when they read that? Haha. But really, today I’d like to carry on their message of being your uninhibited self, of being true to who you are, and I challenge everyone (including myself, because we’re all in this together) to find ways to genuinely express who you are. Say it loud and proud!

Tell me a few ways below that you stay true to who you are! Maybe even let me know what beauty means to you! Scroll to the bottom to leave a comment!
